From April 24 – May 2, Hot Docs hits Toronto with some of the best international documentaries from around the world. If you’re a documentary film buff, you’ll get access to tons of films you may otherwise have never seen. I go every year, and try to see a variety of films so I don’t limit myself.

Here are the top three films I’m excited to see in March, leading up to this year’s festival:

  1. Bettie Page Reveals All: Widely considered one of the first sex symbols and most famous pinup girls from the 1950s, Bettie Page’s life story is finally told in her own words through audio interviews recorded prior to her death. Learn about her quiet upbringing and shy beginnings, as well as her early retirement from the industry right at the pinnacle of her career. It’s a window into the world of a woman who helped launch the sexual revolution of the 1960s.

  2. Liv & Ingmar: This Swedish film examines the 42-year relationship between the prolific director and actress, examining their work relationship and a love affair that left them covered in scandal. This unconventional love story will be both heartwarming and wrenching, as we get whisked away on a bittersweet journey.

  3. Everybody Street: Cheryl Dunn’s production follows the New York street photography movement as it evolved over 60 years. We get a front row seat to some lesser-known artists that are just as unique as their well-known photographic documentation, including capturing provocative moments, violence, and graffiti.

There are so many films, topics, eras, and unique voices to see at Hot Docs, so check out the full schedule here to see what peaks your interest.
