There’s no doubt that Toronto boasts an impressive array of restaurants for food lovers around the world. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this summer’s restaurant openings provide the excitement and high quality food our city is known for. Here are five of the most anticipated restaurants newly opened this summer:

  1. El Furniture Warehouse – This restaurant, originally from Whistler, is already making its mark among students in the Annex. They have plates hitting just under $5 and a relaxed atmosphere mirroring the vibes of its east coast counterpart. Their impressive portions and encouragement for patrons to take ski shots is putting this restaurant on the track to becoming an Annex staple.

  2. Tinto Bar de Tapas – Located on Bayview Ave, just south of Eglinton Avenue, this Spanish bar is the new baby of Otta Zapotocky, the owner of L’Avenue, a French restaurant across the street. With a plethora of wine options to wash down their cold and hot tapas, this restaurant exudes the same friendliness one would get at a close friend’s dinner party. Guests are encouraged to stay as the evening bleeds into the night and with their option of sharing platters, I don’t think anyone could say no.

  3. Montecito – Montecito is the creation of Hollywood director Ivan Reitman and Master Chef Jonathan Waxman. Nestled in Toronto’s Entertainment District, with a two-story dining room and outdoor patio to match, it fills a food void that King West seems to lack. Though Ghostbusters fans may be disappointed at the lack of movie memorabilia, the daily updated menu is sure to impress. With a list of local suppliers in which they get their seasonal ingredients, Montecito will no doubt measure up to the hype and establish itself as a King West Classic.

  4. Thoroughbred – Thoroughbred Food & Drink is a contemporary Canadian restaurant taking eager patrons through its journey. The destination? Their opening. Located on Richmond St in an old mansion house, this much anticipated hot spot exudes simplicity and promises patrons will be taken back to the flavors of their youth. With two-storeys in the works for this summer’s opening, co-owners Aaron Zack and Ariel Coplan are already teasing fans about a third floor lounge.

  5. La Libre – With a menu inspired by the Yucatan region of Mexico, this new patio-only restaurant is a shining light in the Annex’s otherwise dull Mexican food landscape. It’s located right behind its sister restaurant Playa Cabana Hacienda and with almost everything cooked over charcoal, it almost sounds too good to be true.
